Finding Your Voice on the Page
Our goal is to reduce the rate of recidivism in California and to encourage restorative justice in communities. We believe teaching creative writing and storytelling methods to prisoners bolsters this goal.
The migration of a mind to the page allows for reflection. Decisive truths are revealed as to how
the inmate's actions impacted lives, families, and communities.
Building confidence in voice is essential to self-esteem and respect for self and others. As one inmate inside Folsom Women's Facility told us, "I speak for all of us here. Before we took this class, we didn't know we even had a voice. Now we do."
This is the mission we are on.
