“The findings, from the largest-ever meta-analysis of correctional educational studies, suggest that prison education programs are cost effective, with a $1 investment in prison education reducing incarceration costs by $4 to $5 during
the first three years post-release.”

EDUCATION REDUCES RECIDIVISM
Teaching creative writing in prisons offers prisoners the chance to reflect on their pasts. Their futures are at stake. On release, if a formerly incarcerated person decides that pursuing education is a better choice than returning to old criminal habits, society benefits.
That’s what we aim to achieve at Yardtime Literary Program. Our creative writing classes run in five California prisons.
Education reduces recidivism.
WE NEED YOUR HELP RAISING MONEY
Yardtime Literary Program receives funding through the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation Innovative Grants Program. Funding at three facilities we teach in will be ending in the not too distant future. Those facilities include two women’s prisons, CCWF - Chowchilla and FWF-Folsom, in addition to CMF-Vacaville, a prison medical facility for men.
HOW WILL YOUR DONATION BE SPENT?
Your tax-deductible donation will help pay compensation to our teaching staff inside the prisons.
Cover costs of travel - Yardtime Literary Program travels around 600 miles each week.
Purchase supplies for lessons and cover printing costs.
Maintain our social media outreach and website.
WHAT IMPACT WILL YOUR DONATION HAVE?
Recently, a female inmate at FWF-Folsom said this: “I speak for everyone here. Before we took this class, we didn’t know we had a voice. Now, we do.”
This is the impact your donation will have. Building self-confidence and raising self-esteem is the foundation for better choices.
Your donation will help give an individual a second chance on the outside.
